What's The Word On Games?!

I've only played Yahtzee 3 times ever and It's always been with my boyfriend's family. To me, this game was very confusing and takes a lot of brainwork. However, when I play it with other people It's a lot easier to do. The object of the game is to roll the dice to see who gets the highest score out of 13 rounds. Yes! This game also takes a while to finish espe cially if you’re playing with more than 4 players in my case, I was playing with 6 and it took a very long time.  You can also roll up to three dice at a time which was new to me since I always play games with one dice.  Also, each time you roll the dice it comes with another set of rules for example, for the first roll you roll all five of the dice  if you get the numbers, you were looking for then you write your score down if not you go to the second roll. It’s kind of a game of luck because you’re using dice.   

I was one of the last people to pick my board game for project 2 not knowing that the library had very interesting board games. As the person at the desk brought the games out for me to see I instantly saw Pandemic stand out with its yellow and red lettering. The visuals also stood out to me with 4 characters you had looks of urgency on their faces. It was so cool to play a game about something that the whole world is going through. Pandemic is described as a cooperative game because you can lose as a team or win as a team. Each player (there are 7 to chose from) has a certain job that they have to complete throughout the game.  There are 4 different diseases that the elite team of disease-fighters has to find a cure for. The board game is a map of the whole world so you never know which part of the world can be affected by deadly diseases.        Have you ever played a board game and got on teams with another person? And sometimes it just happens you just have that person that you look out for within the game. In this week’s blog post I will talk about how board games use teamwork and how it is implemented within them. The purpose of a board game that has teamwork weaved into its rulebook is to show you that you have to work together to win this game weathers it’s 2 vs. 2 or you are all working together to complete a game such as my board game pandemic.   Ageism within gaming is something that is often seen and isn’t always looked over in today’s society. 2 in 3 millennials play video games more than once a week which I found out in an article done by superdata research. You may sometimes hear parents or older adults who don’t play video games say they don’t like seeing adults play video games. They are looking at video games as something that should be left to children and teenagers. There are different reasons why a person in the millennial age group plays video games. Family Feud is an all-time favorite game show that has been on television since 1976. It is a think-fast trivia game that questions your ability to think on your feet. It includes the sport aspect of rhetoric with its rules, application, and competition. In family feud you're going against another family in different rounds of the game. However, this game is an example of trans mediation which is the conversion of a book, movie etc. being transformed into another type of media which is different from the original. For instance, family feud is a tv show but has since been made into a several other editions which are in retrospect the same but have a twist with different questions or the Disney family feud which is for younger children, family feud block buster and many more editions of the game with the same concept.   The game of Life is one of my all-time favorite board games as a child I was able to not only make somewhat realistic adult choices but was also able to immerse myself into certain situations that I’ve actually been through goring up such as picking a college and a major. The main theme of this game is to travel the path of LIFE making decisions, building a family, earning money, and paying money out to others as well. LIFE has endless possibilities on how it could end    This game has many different aspects included that we’ve discussed in class such as the different outcomes you get to decide how many kids you want, what career you want.  This week I chose to discuss what I chose to do my project 1 paper on as well as what we’ve discussed in class which is the depictions of people of color in video games. The video game industry is such a big industry that it is worth more than the film and music industries combined. When I think of the video games of this generation I often think of the posters that I see, who in the commercials are playing the games as well as which audiences they're being targeted at and I always see that it's directed to white American teenage boys. In this article, I learned a lot of new things about gaming such as when the first video game included an African American person which was in 1986 and it was a boxing game which is something else that isn't talked about in gaming.
