Benefits Of Videogames on Children

When it comes to gaming for children most parents like to keep all videogames at a distance because they feel that the child will miss out on real-world experiences. However, in a recent article Dr. Martin Griffiths who is a psychology professor at Nottingham Trent University looked into the advantages of children in different age groups who play video games and how they can be looked at as educational. Video games are often seen as consuming children’s attention in a negative way, but it depends on what’s happening within the game since video games have a way of engaging children in learning experiences which are said to be called edutainment. By observing the children when using computer games to relay educational information it’s clear they prefer edutainment.             The benefits that come from having children use videogames for educational purposes are:  Video games attract participants from all ages, genders, ethnicities, and educational statuses they appeal to every category, they can assist children in setting goals, they also have fun while participating in the games. Video games also help special needs children with skills as well such as Language skills, basic math skills, basic reading skills, and social skills. Video games also help children who are in rehabilitation with things such as helping a young boy improve his arms control after a broken arm. They can also help with HIV/AIDS prevention with informative games. In conclusion, video games are something that has been built upon with games such as ABC Mouse and other learning games that teach skills that children build on throughout their educational journey.
